Powertrain Options
Grand Highlander Hybrid offers two different powertrains to give you a drive that fits your family best: a 2.5L 4-cylinder hybrid engine that has 245 net combined hp and a Hybrid MAX engine that has 362 net combined hp—each delivering a quality blend of performance and efficiency.
All-Wheel Drive
Drive with peace of mind that lets you focus on what matters most. Grand Highlander Hybrid’s available AWD capabilities give you enhanced traction for roads that are less than perfect.
Drive Modes With Multi-Terrain Select
Three distinct drive modes let you adjust Grand Highlander Hybrid’s driving dynamics to match your mood. Sport Mode provides sharper acceleration, Eco Mode helps maximize fuel efficiency, and Normal Mode blends fuel economy with performance. And for more capability when the pavement ends, Grand Highlander Hybrid features Multi-Terrain Select or Trail Mode on all-wheel-drive models. Choose between four modes (Mud & Sand, Rock & Dirt, Snow, and Normal) for improved traction. When activated, the system is designed to sense slippage and regulate wheelspin—helping you to conquer the backroads.
Towing Capacity
When you want to bring more along for the ride, Grand Highlander Hybrid is up for the task. Grand Highlander Hybrid MAX has up to a 5000-lb. towing capacity, while Hybrid’s powertrain has up to 3500 lbs. of towing capacity. 12
Spacious Third Row
Invite the whole family and more. Grand Highlander Hybrid’s third row was designed with adults in mind, making room for three passengers and providing an ample 33.5 inches of leg room so that everyone can stretch out.
Cargo Capacity
Pack it all in. Even with all the seats up, Grand Highlander Hybrid still leaves you with 20.6 cu. ft. of space in the rear cargo area. When cargo takes precedence, fold down its seats to reveal an impressive 97.5 cu. ft. of space. 13
Available Hands-Free Power Liftgate
Grand Highlander Hybrid is one step ahead of your needs. Access the rear cargo area with the touch of a button from your key fob, instrument panel or the liftgate itself. When you find your hands full with gear or groceries, and with the Smart Key in your pocket or purse, perform a kicking motion under the rear bumper to activate the opening of the rear liftgate. 5
Fold-Flat Rear Seats
Grand Highlander Hybrid’s available 60/40 second-row bench seating and 60/40 third row fold flat to maximize cargo space and versatility, so you can take on more adventures and come back with even more memories.
Drive Connect
Take the stress out of being in unfamiliar territory. With a Drive Connect 9 trial or subscription, 10 the Cloud Navigation 14 and Intelligent Assistant 15 features help you find where you need to be, while Destination Assist 16 allows you to talk to a live agent while they help you find your destination’s coordinates and offer directions on how to get there. One-year trial subscription included. Subscription required after trial. 10 4G network dependent.

Traffic Jam Assist
Improve your daily commute. This available driver-assistance feature helps ease the burden of the stressful stop-and-go of a traffic jam by providing control of the vehicle steering, braking and acceleration at speeds under 25 mph. 8 This system is designed for limited-access roadways, and with the driver monitor camera confirming the driver's eyes are on the road, hands-free operation is possible. Traffic Jam Assist requires an active Drive Connect trial or subscription 9 10 and is 4G network dependent.
Panoramic View Monitor
Grand Highlander Hybrid's available Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) 11 helps you check your surroundings for hazards. It uses four cameras to display a panoramic view on the touchscreen display. When you’re parked and using the Moving View setting, it creates a virtual view from above to give you a bigger picture of what’s around Grand Highlander Hybrid.
Blind Spot Monitor With Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
The Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) 17 with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) 18 is designed to help look out for your safety. The Blind Spot Monitor warns you when a vehicle in the next lane enters Grand Highlander Hybrid’s blind spot on either side of the vehicle. And when you’re in reverse, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) helps detect vehicles approaching from either side, warning you with side mirror indicators and a warning tone.
Front and Rear Parking Assist With Automatic Braking
Make parking easy, and reversing out even easier, with available Parking Assist with Automatic Braking (PA w/AB). 6 The system visually warns you when it detects stationary objects or vehicles approaching from the rear. If the system determines there may be contact with a detected obstacle or vehicle, it will reduce engine power and/or apply the brakes.
Pre-Collision System With Pedestrian Detection
The Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD) 19 is designed to help detect a vehicle, pedestrian, bicyclist or motorcyclist and provide an audio/visual forward-collision warning under certain circumstances. If you don’t react, the system is designed to provide automatic emergency braking.
Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
Intended for highway use, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) 20 is an adaptive cruise control system that is designed to be set at speeds above 20 mph and uses vehicle-to-vehicle distance control to help maintain a preset distance from the vehicle ahead of you.
Lane Departure Alert With Steering Assist
By detecting visible white/yellow lane markings or the road’s edge at speeds above 30 mph, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA) 21 is designed to issue an audio/visual lane departure warning if an inadvertent lane departure is detected. If the driver does not take corrective action, the Steering Assist function is designed to provide gentle corrective steering for lane-keeping assistance.
Lane Tracing Assist
When Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) 20 is enabled and lane markers are detected, Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) 22 uses the lines on the road and/or preceding vehicles to provide active driving assistance and help keep the vehicle centered in its lane. While LTA is activated, the Emergency Drive Stop System (EDSS) 23 is designed to help detect a driver who is inattentive or nonresponsive, such as during a medical emergency. This feature can bring the vehicle to a stop if the driver does not respond to alerts to take control.
Road Sign Assist
Using an intelligent camera, Road Sign Assist (RSA) 24 is designed to detect speed limit signs, stop signs, Do Not Enter signs, yield signs and certain warning signs, and display an icon of the sign on the Multi-Information Display (MID).
Automatic High Beams
The Automatic High Beams (AHB) 25 are designed to help you see more clearly at night. At speeds above 21 mph, the AHB system is designed to detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and taillights of preceding vehicles, then automatically toggle between high and low beams accordingly.
Proactive Driving Assist
When system operating conditions are met, using Grand Highlander’s camera and radar, Proactive Driving Assist (PDA) 26 provides gentle braking into curves, or gentle braking and/or steering, to help support driving tasks such as distance control between your vehicle and a preceding vehicle, pedestrian or bicyclist.
